Caroline Granger started The Grange vineyards on her family farm in Prince Edward County. She knew there was something special about that place where she spent her summers growing up and at her first opportunity moved back to pursue her passion. More than a decade into the project she has 60 acres of vineyards; the largest in the region and has wines available in LCBO stores across Ontario.
Prince Edward County is the newest viticulture area in Ontario, Canada. A man-made island in Lake Ontario PEC has a distinct micro-climate, making it more temperate and drier than the surrounding mainland. It is on a limestone bedrock as a result has a unique minerality to our wines.
Caroline Granger has taken over full time as wine-maker at The Grange. Her distinct style is clear; easy-drinking styles and affordable prices. wines for 'real life' as she sees it. they are the kinds of wines that Caroline likes to drink and share, whether its a weeknight dinner, an afternoon on the patio or holidays with family.
The Grange has 7 varieties planted on the farm. Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Gamay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Franc.
Burgundian varieties were the surefire bet in this region with its climatic similaries to that part of France. However, because Prince Edward County is a new wine region, Caroline wanted to try new varieties to see what they could be like. So far we have had great success with our Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc as well, which are done in unique styles for the region and for the grapes.
The Grange carries two lines. Trumpour's Mill, which is a line of value wines priced under $20. As well as a White Label Estate Line named after the winery Grange of Prince Edward. These are wines only made in the best vintages, and made with extra time and care that could only be done with extremely small batch production.
most recently we have won two silvers for our 2007 GPE Cabernet Franc. One at the Cuvee awards in Niagara and one at the Hong Kong International Wine Awards.
